a little bit about bridal alterations
It is the job of an alterations specialist to make your dress work for your body and your wedding day. We will analyze you in your garment to determine what needs to be done to make you look your very best.
Bridal gowns are complicated. They can contain multiple layers of different fabrics, boning, lace, and embellishments. Some of these items such as boning and embellishments must be removed, the alteration performed, and the boning and embellishments re-positioned. Many times this must be done by hand. What looks like a simple hem, may involve 6-10 layers with various hem finishes. All of this involves special skills and lots of time. Bridal alterations should never be left in the hands of a non-professional.
how the fittings work
We take appointments for fittings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We offer days or evenings, but please keep in mind that the evenings fill up first and are usually full about a month in advance. If you don’t live in the area, we are happy to make arrangements with you other than Tuesdays or Thursdays. Most wedding dresses require three fittings.
what you need to bring
Your bra or any other undergarments you will be wearing to the wedding, including Spanx. We have sew-in bra cups that are a great option for most gowns. Large busts may still need the support of a bra. If you aren’t sure, you can always bring a bra with you and we can help you decide what will work the best.
The exact shoes you will be wearing. No exceptions! We cannot be responsible for a perfect hem without the exact shoes.
